Small And Medium Enterprises Can Finally Own Their Data Replicator

Data Replication is the process of copying computer folders and files in real-time from one computer to another via the internet.

In Relational Database Management Systems, replication is favorable because it can be used to provide redundancy or to balance load, thus increasing the performance across multiple database servers.

There are many ways to achieve the data replication function, depending on the distance between each computer holding the data and their respective locations.

Data replication between two computers in the same building is usually possible with a cable, typically an Ethernet line. As the distance increases (computers in different buildings) the computers can be connected with a variety of media, such as wireless or phone lines.

Further increase in distance (computers in different neighborhoods, cities or countries) or when using a portable computer with no fixed location, the problem of replication can be solved by connecting to the internet.

This created a new business niche for companies offering data warehousing as a service. In this instance the user would purchases the service and is given a space on the internet. However, this service is costly. The benchmark is $1 per Megabyte. Considering the amount of data found on the multiple computers of a small and medium enterprise to be replicated, this option tends to be expensive.

Nowadays, there are companies that offer the whole replication package in one product with a one-time license purchase. This allows Small and medium enterprises' to have a full replication capability by connecting through the internet at an affordable price.
